Officer Programs
Coast Guard Academy
Location: New London, CT
Requirements: HS graduate, 17-22 years old, no nomination needed
Four-year program leading to B.S. degree and commission as Ensign. Full scholarship including room, board, and monthly stipend.
Officer Candidate School (OCS)
Location: New London, CT
Duration: 17 weeks
Requirements: Bachelor's degree, 21-41 years old
Intensive training program for college graduates. Commission as Ensign upon completion.
College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI)
Requirements: Enrolled sophomore/junior, minority or critical skill
Up to two years of tuition assistance plus monthly stipend. Attend OCS after graduation.
Direct Commission Officer (DCO)
Professionals with specialized skills (lawyers, doctors, engineers) may receive direct commissions. Programs include:
- Legal (JAG)
- Medical (doctors, PAs, nurses)
- Engineering
- Chaplain
- Environmental management
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO)
Experienced enlisted members (E-6 and above) may apply for warrant officer programs, becoming technical specialists and leaders.
